About me

I am a 24 year-old enthusiast of the natural world, a passionate wildlife photographer and am driven by the desire to conserve and protect our planet and the fascinating creatures which call it home. I have always been interested in wildlife, in particular birds, and have been taking pictures of the natural world since I was about eight.  I spent half my life growing up on a small, windswept island called Bardsey off the coast of North Wales, where my family and I moved to  in 2007. Living on this remote island deepened my interest in birds and wildlife significantly, particularly as I became more and more involved with the work of Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory, who taught me the magic of moth recording, bird ringing, avian migration and seabird study work.

After eight years of homeschooling I decided to pursue my passion for the natural world and undertake a degree in Conservation Biology with the University of Exeter. Since graduating in 2018, I have launched into a career of conservation and seek to develop my photography alongside the restoration projects, research and campaign work which I become involved with. You can follow my latest projects through my social media channels below and explore some of my work here on my website.

I have been fortunate to feature in a number of national photography competitions:  shortlisted in Bird Photographer of the Year 2017, 'Runner Up in the RSPCA young wildlife photography competition 2014,  Highly Commended and Shortlisted images in the 2014 British Wildlife Photography Awards. My images have featured in various publications and magazines, including  Resurgence and Ecologist,  BBC Wildlife Magazine, Woodland Trust, A Rocha International, Natur Cymru and British Birds.

Equipment

  • Oystercatcher on Solfach
  • Underwater photography: Lumix FT-5
  • Macro Photography: Canon 7D + Sigma 105mm
  • Bird photography: Canon 7Dmkii + Canon 300mm f2.8 + Canon 1.4x

The pictures on this website were taken with a mix of different cameras and lenses, although I have always used Canon gear. I have upgraded and changed my equipment several times in the time I've been pursuing photography, my current setup comprising a  5D mkiv with  a Canon 100-400mm mkii lens for bird photography, a Canon 16-35mm f4 lens for landscape work and a Canon 100mm f2.8 for macro photography. Up until recently I used a Canon 7D mkii  body and a Canon 300mm f2.8 lens for most of my wildlife images, coupled with a 1.4x converter, whilst a trusty Sigma 105mm f2.8 lens served a fantastic job for my macro photography until 2019. If you have any specific gear-focussed questions, just drop me a message via my contact page!
